Nacht van de Viool in Tivoli: first festival in the Netherlands to pay tribute to the versatility of the violin | brings Utrecht
From Arabic maqam and Indian raga to jazz and ragtime, De Nacht van de Viool on January 27 in TivoliVredenburg is the first festival in the Netherlands to focus on the versatility of the violin.
Sounds on six stages between 7:00 PM and 12:00 AM depending on the genres. In addition to the main stage in the Hertz, there are thematic rooms such as ‘Night Stories’, ‘Discovery’, ‘Solo’, ‘Night CafĂ©’ and ‘Fiddle Talks’. Guest curator and improvising violinist Tim Kliphuis, born in Utrecht, has invited a diverse group of violinists. From Irish fiddle legend Frankie Gavin to worldwide universal gypsy violinist Roby Lakatos, the variety is wide and the violin will sound different with every violinist and style.
For example, Isabelle van Keulen performs with her Tango ensemble. Four laureates of the Netherlands Violin Competition 2022 will enter into a ‘Paganini battle’ and also surprisingly Valentine BlangĂ©, winner of the Young Makers Prize 2022. Finally, the festival final will be led by Tim Kliphuis. Lakatos, Gavin, Van Keulen, the Utrecht Merel Vercammen, Yannick Hiwat and many others play the stars of heaven.
