A veritable institution is about to be resurrected in downtown Toulouse ! In a few weeks will open “The Diago”a musical bar ideally located place des Carmes.
A bar steeped in history
Opened for the first time in 1987, this festive café has made several generations of Toulouse residents dance over the space of 35 years. Six partners are taking the gamble of reviving this emblematic bar in the Carmes district: Thierry de Saint-Sernin, François Lalo, Christian Duboé, Jacques Jany, Aïzé Saint-Alme and a certain… Ugo Molathe coach of Toulouse stadium.
How was the connection made? “We have all known each other for a long time! This association is above all a story of men, friends, good friends. We all already have several businesses in Toulouse (Le Quartier Latin, Un Air de Quartier, Le Cosmo, the Rowing Club…) and we all wanted to bring Le Diago up to date. It welcomed us and Ugo agreed to take part in this adventure,” explains Jacques Jany.
A “bringue bar”, 80s atmosphere
Let it be said, this new bar will always be festive: open only in the evening, and five days out of 7, it aims rather customers between 30 and 60 years old.
“We want to make it a party bar, and attract both those who were born in the 80s and those who made party in the 80s. We realize that for this generation, there is no more big thing in Toulouse”, continues “Jako” Jany. With two distinct spaces, the downstairs room will be the most festive (with DJ and dance floor), while the upstairs room is more designed for dining.
“For the downstairs room, we would like to go on an 80s vibe which is both generalist and electro, a little in the style of what DJ Folamour offers. Not just boom boom, then, but a real musical proposal! And we’re going to work on the decor, which will be inspired by memphis movement», Explains for his part Aizé Saint-Alme.
A sophisticated catering offer
In the upper room (with an art deco atmosphere) the catering offer will be neat, promise the six partners. “We want to take inspiration from counter fronts of Yves Camdeborde located in Bordeaux and Paris, further details Jacques Jany. We want to offer worked and cooked dishes, but in tapas portions. It can be croquetas as well as beef bourguignon or line-caught hake, but served in a small format, with prices varying between 5 and 10 euros. The idea is to have our customers come for an aperitif and that they can stay until 3 a.m. if they wish,” adds the 30-year-old.
And there will be room, since the bar can accommodate “a good hundred covers”. The opening is scheduled “between mid-February and mid-March”, depending on the progress of the work.
