Berlin Greens want to close the election program

Berlin (dpa/bb) – A good three weeks before the repeat election in Berlin, the Greens want to decide on an election program at a state delegates’ meeting on Saturday (from 10 a.m.). According to the party, the around 130-page paper is based on the program for the 2021 election, but has been revised and supplemented in some points. The priorities include climate protection, including a heating transition away from fossil fuels, a conversion of mobility away from cars and an administrative reform with a clearer division of tasks between the state and district levels. Lead candidate Bettina Jarasch will speak to the delegates.
Because many problems and mistakes arose in the election to the House of Representatives in September 2021, the Berlin Constitutional Court ordered a complete repetition, which will take place on February 12. The Greens want to continue the government alliance with the SPD and the left if possible – but they hope that this will happen under their leadership and that Jarasch will replace the SPD politician Franziska Giffey in the town hall. In the most recent polls, the CDU was ahead, but the red-green-red would still have a majority of the seats in the House of Representatives.
