The unique painter Zdeňko Sýkora will go to auction in Prague. The starting price is 9.5 million crowns

EXCLUSIVE: Art collectors and connoisseurs have been on alert for several weeks. During the auction, which will take place on March 5 in Topič’s salon on Národní třída, a battle will take place for the unique painting by the famous painter Zdenek Sýkora Line No. 90. The owner of the auction house, Jiří Rybář, revealed this in an interview with PrahaIN.cz.
Information about auctions of Sýkor’s paintings traditionally causes an extraordinary stir among interested parties. This is also evidenced by the results of foreign and domestic auctions. “We are happy that this interesting and unique work will appear here. Linie’s turn will come approximately halfway through the auction and the starting price will be 9.5 million. Zdenek Sýkora’s paintings always attract extraordinary attention. Therefore, I assume that the price could reach 13 or 14 million,” said Jiří Rybář for PrahaIN.cz.
The record was set in Germany
Zdenek Sýkora’s paintings are very popular among art connoisseurs and their popularity is constantly growing. In June 2021, the German auction house Lempertz auctioned Sýkor’s painting Line No. 31 for an incredible 22 million crowns. The auction, which took place in Cologne, had an unexpectedly dramatic course. The starting price of Sýkor’s work was set at 5.6 million crowns. While the auctioneer presented the painting to bidders, its estimate price was surpassed in online bidding. Immediately, the auctioneers in the hall also take part in the auction, and within a few moments the price soared to the resulting 22 million crowns.
The tit has conquered London
However, the search for Sýkor’s paintings did not end with the auction in Cologne. In October of last year, Christie’s auction house in London auctioned another Sýkor’s unique Line No. 91 from 1992. Its price quickly rose to 567 thousand pounds (15.84 million crowns) during the auction. A week later, the Art Consulting auction house in Prague auctioned Sýkor’s painting Line No. 52 from 1988. The interested party acquired it for a starting price of 8,162 million crowns.
Sýkor’s paintings adorn prestigious galleries
The painter Zdeněk Sýkora became famous all over the world as the author of remarkable paintings. He used a computer to create them and thus became a pioneer in the use of modern technology in the visual arts. His works adorn the permanent collections of prestigious galleries around the world. For example, Sýkor’s paintings are owned by the Neues Museum in Nuremberg, the Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna in Vienna or the famous Center Pompidou in Paris.
