Yellow alert over almost all of Belgium: weather spies for the weekend
Patches of ice and freezing fog would make the roads slippery and dangerous.
VSn Thursday evening, the weather will be marked by winter showers or snowfall. The sky will be partly or very cloudy. It will be clearer in the north of the country. Freezing fog may form, especially in the Ardennes. Also note the risk of ice patches. The Royal Meteorological Institute has issued an alert for slippery conditions which will be in effect in most of Belgium (except the Coast) until Friday, 12 noon. The minima will be between -5 degrees in the Ardennes (see locally a little less), -1 or -2 degrees in the center and +2 to +3 degrees at sea.
On Friday, it will be very cloudy with only a few rare clearings and already weak winter precipitation in the first hours. During the day, more showers from the Netherlands, in the form of rain, sleet or even sleet, will punctuate our weather. At the end of the day, they will generalize and take the form of melting snowfall or snow in Upper Belgium. The maxima will vary between 0 and -2 degrees in the Ardennes, 3 to 4 degrees in the center and 6 degrees at the coast.
Friday evening and the night of Friday to Saturday, it will still be variable with some local winter showers, sometimes in the form of snowfall. Later in the night, generally dry weather will return from the north with sunny spells near the Netherlands. Patches of ice could form again. The minima will be between -5 degrees in the Ardennes, -3 degrees in the Campine, -1 degree in the center and 0 degrees at the sea.
Saturday, the weather will be dry with sunny spells and cloudy periods. Mainly in the south of the country, a few fog banks (in places freezing) could shoot in the morning. The maxima will vary between -2 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes, 2 degrees in the center and 3 or 4 degrees at the sea.
Sunday dawn will be cold and gray with frosts in most areas and a chance of freezing fog. Some clearings could sneak in during the day, especially in the west of the country where a light winter shower could also occur. And mainly in its eastern part, light snowfall will be possible. This risk will persist the following night. The maxima will oscillate between -3 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes, 2 degrees in the center and around 4 degrees by the sea.
Monday we will start the day with some sunny spells in the west and lots of low cloud from the center to the east of the country. They might still deliver a few flakes. In the Hautes Fagnes, they will also cause poor visibility (freezing fog). During the afternoon and especially in the evening, the sunny spells widen in all regions but the cold will increase. The maxima will range between -2 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes and 5 degrees in the far west.
