Toulouse: Saint-Sernin high school students organized a blockade before going to demonstrate against the pension reform
From 5 a.m. on Thursday January 19, students from Saint-Sernin high school in Toulouse blocked the entrance to their establishment before joining the procession of demonstrators against the pension reform.
The pension reform project does not leave Toulouse high school students indifferent. From 5 am, Thursday, January 19, the students of the Saint-Sernin high school organized a blockade to express their disagreement with the reform which put the whole of France on the street.
In front of the secondary school, banners and slogans are displayed on the gates, not always related to retirement. Around 9 a.m., around twenty high school students hang around before joining the procession of demonstrators at the François Verdier metro station.
“When we arrived around 5 a.m., there were police on the spot, confides Lambert, first-grade student and spokesperson for the Saint-Sernin high school students. They made sure that there was no degradations and they did not take us seriously because we were not very numerous. But the high school student claim is serious”.
Idle lessons in Saint-Sernin
As a result, many students decided not to go to class. “We want to demonstrate, adds Lambert. It is facilitated by the fact that many teachers are on strike in Saint-Sernin, it is around 80%. I only saw eight teachers this morning enter the establishment.
The continuation of the movement? “On a response to the union’s call, explains Emy, a first-grade student. If the unions call on us to continue the blockade, we will also be there tomorrow to continue our actions.” The young girl ensures that retirement is also a concern for high school students. “We are not only concerned about us, she continues. We are also concerned about our elders, our parents, we do not want them to parent so late in retirement. Some have a lot of galleys in their professional life. We are here to support each other: students, high school students, workers, workers. We want to have a united movement to have more impact.”
