With an investment of more than 24 million euros from the department, the new college should open its doors in 2026.
The Bouches-du-Rhône department wants to offer a better environment to its college students. During a public meeting organized on Tuesday at the town hall of Port-de-Bouc, the department unveiled its renovation project for the Paul-Eluard college.
A new college, “the larger, more modern and exemplary one in terms of the environment” will be defined not far from the already existing one in the years to come.
A school that is more respectful of the environment
In addition to responding to population growth, by opening a college that will be able to accommodate 728 students, including 500 half-boarders, the department wants to emphasize the development of more environmentally responsible structures.
The new college designed by architects Marjan Hessamfar and Joe Vérons will be equipped with photovoltaic panels on the roofs. A wood-fired boiler and the use of low-carbon concrete should reduce the building’s greenhouse gas emissions.
“Stone by stone, project by project, as here in Port-de-Bouc, we are building another territory for future generations”, welcomed Martine Vassal, president of the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council, in a press release. released this Thursday.
This large-scale project will require an investment of 24.3 million euros from the department. It is part of the Charlemagne maplaunched in 2017, which aims to help the renovation of colleges to meet both educational and energy transition needs.
The start of work is scheduled for the third half of 2024, for delivery of the new college in the first half of 2026.
