New record year for Cambio | BRUZZ
The car-sharing system Cambio has had a new record year. The number of users in Belgium passed 60,000 and the number of cars approached 2,000. That was heard on Thursday at Cambio.
The number of users increased by 9,000 during the year 2022, to about 63,000 at the end of the year. That is a success with 16 percent. The number of trips rose in the same order, to over 792,000. The Cambio fleet is expanding from 1,800 to 2,100 shared cars.
‘Sharing in times of crisis’
Cambio calculates that each shared car replaces about fifteen private vehicles, which means that last year the car-sharing system would have reduced the number of cars on the road by 31,500. “2022 was even better than 2021, which was already a record year,” says Frédéric Van Malleghem, director of Cambio in Brussels.
According to him, the success is due to “the energy crisis and more noted supply problems and the double cost of cars. In times of crisis, sharing is a clear solution,” he added more generally.
More electric cars
Van Malleghem also expects for 2023 and 2024. Cambio expects further growth of around 15 percent across Belgium. One of the company’s challenges is to beat more electric cars in the fleet.
Cambio was launched in Belgium in May 2002. The system works with cars standing by day and night in large places in different cities. The user pays a fixed amount per month, supplemented by an amount per use (based on duration and kilometers).
