Cercle Bruges joins Union Saint-Gilloise
Opposed to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Cercle Bruges delivered a superb performance to leave with the point of the draw (1-1).
After a delicate start to the year 2023 (two defeats in two games), Cercle Bruges came close to a feat this Wednesday, January 18 against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. Finally, Miron Muslic’s men won a very good draw against the current second in the championship (1-1).

Majecki, Marcelin and Popović starters
For this shock, the Austrian coach decides to field two players on loan from AS Monaco and another #MadeInLaDiagonale. Thereby, Radeck Majecki is – as usual – a starter in goal, whileHarisson Marcelin and Boris Popovic are respectively aligned central defender and right central defender in the system of three set up. A great sign of confidence! With an average age of 22.8 at kick-off, the Cercle gives pride of place to young people.
Against the second in the Jupiler Pro League, the task is not easy, but the Circle is solid defensively. Proof of this is that despite 67% possession of the ball and six shots from two, the Brussels team did not manage to shake the nets well guarded by Radeck Majecki, who played his twentieth match of the season in the league on this occasion (out of 21 possible ).
The (almost) perfect shot
In the second half, the Cercle, ultra-realistic despite weak possession, (37%) nevertheless managed to open the scoring through midfielder Thibo Sommers (1-0 68th), shortly after a header from Harisson Marcelin on the crossbar. The hardest part seems to be done for the partners of globalist Ayase Ueda. But, despite a great night Radeck Majecki, the Union finally equalized eight minutes from time through their Icelandic striker Gustaf Nilsson (1-1 82nd). Despite this parity score, the result is very encouraging for the Cercle, which continues its good season (tenth, just three points from the play-offs). Cheer!
⏹️ We houden het op een 1-1 gelijkspel.
