The ADAC Hannover Marathon will take place on March 26th with two German EM medal winners. The organizers fulfill the commitment of Amanal Petros and Rabea Schöneborn on Thursday.
Amanal Petros will start at a German city marathon for the first time. The German marathon record holder, who improved his own national best time to 2:06:27 hours in Valencia (Spain) in 2021, will run the Hanover Marathon on March 26. The organizers announced this at a press conference on Thursday. Amanal Petros, who has started for SCC Berlin since the beginning of the year, originally wanted to run the Seville marathon in February.
In addition to the commitment of the German record holder, the organizers of the race, who have the new title sponsor in ADAC, also announced the commitments of the Vice European Champion from Munich, Matea Parlov Kostro (Croatia), and Rabea Schöneborn (SCC Berlin).
The 28-year-old from Berlin finished second last year in Hanover in 2:27:35 hours and then finished twelfth at the European Championships in Munich. She won team gold with the German marathon team. She has a personal best of 2:27:03 hours. Matea Parlov Kostro finished third in Hanover last year with a personal best of 2:28:39 and then surprisingly won silver at the European Championships in Munich.
From Kenya directly to Hanover
“I’m really looking forward to my premiere in Hanover and I’m very excited about the fast and once again optimized track,” explained Amanal Petros, who joined the press conference from the training camp in Kenya and who qualified for the Olympics with a fast time in Hanover the games in Paris (France) in the summer of 2024 could already be secured.
Amanal Petros, who will travel to Hanover directly from the training camp immediately before the race, now has significantly more preparation time due to the later than previously planned marathon. If the fourth-placed in the European Championship can continue to build up good form – on Sunday he ran a personal best of 28:03 minutes in the 10-kilometer race in Valencia despite two falls in the beginning phase – he can improve his German record on the fast track probably trustworthy. If the weather conditions are right on March 26th, the course record in Hanover should at least have been broken. This is at 2:08:32 hours.
