tractors invade the center of Toulouse
Dozens of tractors gathered in the center of Toulouse on Tuesday January 17 as part of the farmers’ demonstration. The latter denounce the new Common Agricultural Policy.
The situation is not trivial. Of the dozens of tractors moved to downtown Toulouse this Tuesday, January 17. They now park in front of the administrative city in the Compans-Caffarelli district. The drivers of these vehicles came together at the call of the union of Young farmers in Haute-Garonne (JA 31).
From eight o’clock in the morning, several convoys of tractors, around sixty, thus left from the municipalities of Gragnague, Villefranche-de-Lauragais, Muret, Pibrac and Lanta. After having organized a snail operation on the ring road, the farmers then returned to the city center. Some traffic difficulties are to be noted in the sector. The Airport shuttle and bus lines L1, 14, 45, and 63 are also diverted.
Why are farmers demonstrating in Toulouse?
Farmers intend to be heard at this event. If they organized this gathering, it is to show their opposition to the new CAP (Common agricultural policy). “The objective is to fight against the modification of different zoning (Intermediate Zone, MAEC, Clay Zone, etc.) which currently avoid many and require constraints in vulnerable areas », Explains the union JA 31.
The farmers of the department denounce in particular the fact that the nitrate directive excludes their territory and that the administrative court has rejected the clay derogation at 25%. They also deplore an “envelope for all these measures well below the needs”. Farmers were to be received today by representatives of the DRAAF (Regional Directorate for Food, Agriculture and Forestry).
