Toulouse: Guillaume Léguevaques, lawyer from Toulouse wins the title of first secretary of the Conference
Guillaume Léguevaques, 33, a lawyer from Toulouse, won the prestigious eloquence competition of the Conférence du Barreau at the end of 2022.
In his office, posters relating to aviation, Airbus figurines placed on his desk in the Saint-Michel district of Toulouse between two criminal codes. The lair of Guillaume Léguevaques, lawyer at the Toulouse bar since December 2020, translates quite well the two passions that rock the daily life of this young lawyer of a rather reserved nature. Guillaume Léguevaques, 33, now became a lawyer when he was sworn in in December 2020.
During his studies, he took specializations in criminology and penal law. Logically, at the end of his training, he turned to criminal law. For two years, this young lawyer has been working on criminal cases and also defends the interests of his clients before the family court judge. “A vocation” as he defines it. “I have always loved and had at heart to defend the interests of people. Listening and getting the best out of everyone, I think that’s mainly why I do this job”, he slips, almost embarrassed . Last November, he won the prestigious Bar Conference competition.
A means of transmitting the taste for eloquence
In the first round, like around thirty candidates, he worked on three subjects to choose from: Gold and the way. Does science infuse? And finally, can the soft sentence hurt? “I chose the gold and the way and I worked on my speech. I participated in it mainly because I like public speaking, I take pleasure in discouraging”, explains the person concerned. In the second round which took place on November 16 with more than ten candidates in the running, he opted for the subject as mysterious as it is inspiring “Is the vile serf useful?” A tone rendered on self-mockery, personal references and at the end of these ten minutes of public speaking, the consecration via the first prize of this eloquence contest. “I wanted to reinvent myself, to get out of my comfort zone,” says the winner. For a year, thanks to this title, he will be able to travel around France and especially Europe and continue to highlight his talents as a speaker. He sees through this victory alongside the three laureates of the Toulouse bar a way of transmitting to the youngest the art of expressing themselves, the taste for words and the importance of these in everyday life.
