Toulouse. Energy crisis: the challenge of public lighting
The Departmental Syndicate of Energy of Haute-Garonne (SDEHG) is alarmed by the effects of the energy crisis on communities and businesses in the department. On the occasion of his wishes, the president of the SDEHG, Thierry Suaud, observes prices out of control: “Some pay a bill two to nine times more expensive. Consequence: communities cannot provide public services and small and medium-sized companies that are going out of business”, he regrets. For Thierry Suaud, “the drop in consumption can also be explained by companies that cannot afford to consume more”. The syndicate wishes to guide municipalities towards more sobriety in the use of public lighting. 10% of light points will be replaced by low-consumption devices. To deal with the situation, the president of the SDEHG wonders: “shouldn’t a regulated tariff be created for SMEs and local authorities between 36 and 250 KVA? Shouldn’t we legislate on the conditions for terminating an electricity supply contract to take into account the specificity of these contracts? While waiting for these questions to be answered, the Syndicat Départemental d’Energie de la Haute-Garonne, alongside other players in the public energy service such as the Region and the county council, has adopted certain measures to limit energy expenditure. of the municipalities. Like the “LED Haute-Garonne 2026 ++” program of the SDEHG aimed at accelerating the energy transition of the territory by renovating the public lighting stock of the Haute-Garonne municipalities and reducing the energy expenditure of the municipalities or the organization of an electricity purchasing group to obtain the best prices.
