PLN 180 million from the European Investment Bank on a tram to Championjowice
The European Investment Bank, which finances the financing of PLN 180 million for the construction of a new tram line to Kraków’s Masterejowice, which is implemented in the public-private partnership formula. The investment is to be commissioned at the end of 2024.
As the EIB was informed, in Tuesday’s communication, an agreement was concluded with PPP Solutions Polska, which is responsible for the tasks of this.
The new tram line is being implemented at a cost of over PLN 1 billion 125 million in the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The investment is to be commissioned at the end of 2024. The consortium of PPP Solutions Polska (leader) and Gülermak (partner) – the general contractor, have been selected as the contractor and operator of the Kraków railway line.
The European Investment Bank checks that this project will be the first action in the service of urban transport in Poland, as part of a public-private partnership, and can be treated as a pioneer for other local governments, opening up new financing opportunities for them in this area.
“Sustainable development of environmentally friendly public transport is of strategic importance for Krakow, which is why part of the funding will come from the European Fund for Strategic Investments” – it was indicated.
The vice-president of the EIB, prof. Teresa Czerwińska added that investments in the development of public transport are of key importance, facilitate moving around the city, improve the lives of residents and are appropriate for the climate.

The Mayor of Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski, pointed out that the construction of a tram line to Masterejowice is a district in Poland, a partnership project in the public-private partnership formula.

As part of the investment, a new 4.5 km section of the railway line will be built from the intersection with ul. J. Meissner to Masterjowice. This fragment has been equipped with 10 pairs of stops. According to forecasts, within a few hours the line will be used by about 3,000 people, and trams on this section will depart every 1.5 minutes. A new multi-level transfer node will appear in the vicinity of the Polsadu roundabout.
The investment is to be commissioned at the end of 2024. The operator is to operate the standard until 2044.
The investment price, amounting to over PLN 1 billion, 125 million, provides additional services: financing, line design, obtaining an additional permit, execution of the investment and its maintenance for a period of 20 years.
