Behind Massy and Malakoff, there is traffic! Four teams have the same record of nine wins for five losses between third place, occupied by Union Caen Hérouville, and fifth, where ASPTT Caen resides. The two Caen teams experienced varying fates on Saturday January 14, 2023. Union won with difficulty ahead of Le Mans Saint-Pavin, already condemned to relegation, while the PTT exploded in the first half at Malakoff. They bowed sharply.
UNION CAEN HEROUVILLE 67 – 62 LE MANS SAINT-PAVIN
David Onillon, coach of Union Caen Hérouville: “It was a particular context with three players absent from my side: Samba Diaw, Gaël Marmillod and Matis Mostel. We aimed to resist our defensive frame, it’s chosen done. On the other hand, we had a big breakdown of address throughout the match. We were a little shaken up physically. We had to respond. The mood was great. The players did not demobilize. After that, it was a free throw game. We did well, then we were able to take cover in the last two minutes. It was not an easy match against a team that no longer plays anything but that won’t give up. »
Caen-Herouville: Youri Camara 12, Alexandre Ngombe 4, Raian Lof 5, Chedly Tebourski 12, Jordan Gnohéré 6, Camille Eleka 15, Stanislas Boyenza 10, Mamadou Diawara, Franck Mpondo 3.
MALAKOFF 90 – 62 ASPTT CAEN
Alhou N’Diaye, ASPTT Caen coach: “We had a very difficult start to the match, with an opponent well in place, very rhythmic and diligent. We didn’t have our usual energy on both sides of the pitch. Logically, the gap widens in the first period. Even if by sequences, we were able to generalize them, it was never in continuity. The gap at halftime is logical (49-26). In the second period, it’s better but insufficient to create doubt in the opponent. It’s a shame for the poster that we couldn’t offer more [samedi]. Congratulations to this Malakoff team which remains on a strong dynamic and which produced a match that lived up to its ambitions. We still have to prepare well for these months of January-February when we will only face opponents with good dynamics and/or something to play for. »
ASPTT Caen: Adonis Lejuez NPJ, Maxime Blot 9, Timothé Bleucher 8, Thibault Allerme, Thomas Chauvin 6, Julien Hoflack 1, Florian Diesnis 21, Kirt Laville, Vincent Cornu 7, Aurélien Roupsard 10.
