FH JOANNEUM receives major EU project in Austria
Together with eight European universities, FH JOANNEUM forms the first “Dual European University” in the “EU4DUAL – European University Alliance For Dual Education” project. The aim of this alliance is to strengthen cooperation between universities, cooperation with business and student exchanges in the EU area. FH JOANNEUM is the only Austrian university involved in the project.
The “Duale Europäische Hochschule (EU4DUAL)” is an association of European universities under the direction of the University of Mondragon in Spain. EU4DUAL wants to establish the dual study program as a worldwide reference for high-quality dual study programs and support the mastering of the major challenges of our time such as climate change, decarbonization and digitization through joint projects. Among other things, they work together on research topics in the areas of “Healthy Living”, “Green Economy” and “Future of Work” as well as on the development and accreditation of a structure and a quality management system for the “Duale Europäische Hochschule”.
“FH JOANNEUM was a pioneer in the development of dual study programs in Austria. Participation in the EU4DUAL project reflects its great expertise and leading role in this area. Cooperation with universities from all over Europe will provide and offer important research findings on the major issues of our time another opportunity to increase the international visibility of Styria as a business and research location,” says Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, Minister for Economics and Research.
Karl Peter Pfeiffer, Scientific Director of FH JOANNEUM: “At FH JOANNEUM, the first dual course of study in Austria started back in 2002 with ‘Production Engineering and Organization’. Today there are already four dual bachelor’s and two dual master’s courses at our university. Studying dual means that students are already working in companies during their studies and are thus trained in both worlds: university and business can contribute to the important European education project EU4DUAL in the dual training.
In February 2023, the official EU4DUAL kick-off will take place at Savonia University in Finland. The focus is then on the nine work packages of the project: FH JOANNEUM is leading the “Quality and Sustainability Management” package and has the co-lead in the “Academic Coordination of Grand Innovation Challenges” and “Promoting New Learning Pathways” packages, in which Among other things, it is about making curricula more flexible and the topic “Micro Credentials”.
About EU4DUAL
EU4DUAL is funded by the European Union in the Erasmus+ program via the “European Universities” program line. The project started on January 1, 2023, the total budget is 18 million euros for four years, with FH JOANNEUM accounting for around 3.2 million euros. The project participation is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF). In addition to FH JOANNEUM, there are the DHBW Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (Germany), Savonia University (Finland), ESTIA Institute of Technology (France), John von Neumann University (Hungary), PAR University College (Croatia), MCAST Malta College of Arts , Technology and Science (Malta) and Koszalin Technological University (Poland). The EU4DUAL consortium leader is the University of Mondragon (Spain).
