ALL ANTWERP. “I want to contribute to a solution for climate change” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer choose a casual passerby from the street for a nice conversation. Because everyone has a story. Especially in Antwerp. Today: Louise Dekeersmaeker (19).
“I study biology at the University of Antwerp. Nature, animals and plants have always fascinated me. But actually I started this study mainly because I want to contribute to a solution for climate change. Because I also had other interests, other studies that encompassed my attention. But I thought this was the most urgent, the most necessary thing to do. And so I hope to have a job in the future where I can make a difference.”
“I would prefer to work for an environmental organization such as WWF or would I like to work as a marine biologist or tropical biologist: on the field trying to fight for conservation and for animal protection.”
“I have lived in Antwerp all my life. I like living in a city, in a place where so many different people live together, where you have so much diversity. But I do miss nature a bit. Although I think it is more fun to live in the city and be able to go to nature than to disappear.”
“I still live at home with my parents. I have another brother and two older half-sisters. One of them lives in Canada, in Vancouver. It’s really great there. When I was five, we went to visit her once. And I remember there was a barracuda washed up on the beach. You know, that big fish with teeth that you see in the beginning of the movie Finding Nemo sees. It’s really beautiful there. You also have a lot of bears and whales. Yes, I would love to go back there again.”
