Indeed, the eviction had been passed on to the homeless man along with a request to demolish the cabin shortly after Christmas. “When we made this request, we did not know that it was inhabited”, defends the municipality, strongly criticized by the residents for this decision. And to add: “As soon as we learned that there was someone inside, we set up social support”.
“Social support” set up by the town hall
As a reminder, David, the builder of the hut, found himself on the street a year and a half ago, after his apartment was squatted. Since then, the former animator has lived in this foam construction. To help the homeless find a decent roof, the town hall claims to have done its best in terms of support. Contacted by The Independent Opinion This Monday, January 16, Maryline Rieu, elected in charge of solidarity at the town hall of Tournefeuille, said:
I received this gentleman after the school holidays in the presence of a social worker as part of a proposal for social support. In particular, we offered him to apply for social housing in the city.”
According to the elected official, the social worker also presents a point on David’s rights. “Now the cards are in his hands”, concluded the deputy mayor, who affirms that “the municipal center for social action (CCAS) is always open to support the most deprived”.
What future for the miniature castle?
Much appreciated by local residents, the foam castle should therefore not disappear in the next few days. The town hall informs that it has initiated solutions regarding its future in the municipality.
