Tsekov: Bulgaria is not a presidential republic and will not be ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Bulgaria
“Bulgaria is not a presidential republic and will not be”. This was said by Dr. Borislav Tsekov, professor of constitutional law, in the studio of “Day Live” on NOVA NEWS.
He believes that the constitutional tradition of parliamentarism is the result of the unfortunate social and political experience of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. “That’s why no one in Europe has ever thought about presidential republics and will never think about it,” explained the teacher. Bulgaria continues on the parliamentary path because this was the clear guarantee and insurance against the possibility and bad memory of a resurrected totalitarian regime,” Tsekov analyzed.
This parliament failed because there is a lack of a political culture of dialogue, he was categorical. “In Bulgaria, a Facebook way of doing politics is being established – scandalous, fragmented, rash, without analysis, without strategy, without an idea of national interest,” Tsekov believes. That’s the way to go, and obviously there are people in the political arena right now who understand politics that way, he believes. Tsekov expressed hope that politics will return to normal.
“Even if the president wanted to restore the third term of “Democratic Bulgaria”, it becomes politically impossible after the revelations and prosecutorial actions against Nexo, as well as the actions of the American prosecutor’s office against the company,” he said.
According to him, “Bulgarian Rise” is a small formation without a clear perspective. The potential of the BSP to form the government is too low.
“This coalition, which was the government of Kiril Petkov, in which Russophiles and Russophobes, communists and anti-communists coexisted, is impossible to date,” Tsekov said.
“Hristo Ivanov should have thought when they were kneeling before the president, when they campaigned for the election of Radev, when they voted for him. It’s too late now,” he thinks.
According to him, when the elections will be held depends on the parties in the parliament, not on the president.
