Yuccs, which opens a store on Ercilla street, triumphs with footwear made of merino wool, bamboo and sugar cane
Shoes made with merino wool, the most special of fibers, and bamboo fabric. Yuccs, the most sustainable Majorcan footwear firm in the world, according to its CEO, Pablo Mas, has just landed in Bilbao. After landing in Palma de Mallorca, Madrid and Barcelona, the company founded by the young businessman has chosen the Biscayan capital to prop up its dizzying expansion with the opening of a 150-square-meter store on Ercilla street. Created in July 2017 with an investment of only 15,000 euros, the company bills 10 million euros and intends to strengthen its presence in international markets, although it already operates in Germany, France or Italy.
Yuccs is an example of almost miraculous growth. It started in a very humble way and stands out for its craftsmanship. Yuccs is a pioneer in the use of merino wool in our country and sells its slippers as the most comfortable in the world. Mas’s dream was from the beginning to combine nature, comfort and design in a single product. He opted to change the industry towards a new category inspired solely by “premium natural” materials, through a fashion product that not only respects nature, but is nature itself.
He banished leather and synthetics and recovered a material whose use had declined due to the appearance of synthetics and their competitive prices. Through a complex technological process that took more than a year and a half, he created an innovative fabric starting from merino wool, one of the finest and softest on the planet.
This is how he launched a timeless and classic shoe that stands out from the trends and promotes ethical fashion aimed at a conscious and committed consumer. Yuccs models are 100% “made in Spain”. They are designed in Mallorca and manufactured in Elche. Mas employs more than 150 people. It uses processes that require 50% less energy. In May 2021, it went one step further by launching the first bamboo slippers in Spain. The soles of some of its models are made from sugar cane and castor oil. In addition to its design, there is a “genuine technological development that makes it unique and perfect” to prevent the most common plantar ailments. The bamboo fabric allows to improve perspiration on the hottest days. “It is anti-odor, hypoallergenic and antibacterial. The shoes only weigh 300 grams”, emphasizes Mas,
The company plans to continue betting on retail and one of its goals is to open stores in Seville, Valencia and Zaragoza. In addition, the Mallorcan company has drawn up a diversification strategy and will expand its catalog this year with children’s shoes, sports shoes, bags and sweaters. “Our proposal is to create a wardrobe based on timelessness, innovation and versatility”, explains Mas. The businessman intends that retail sales account for between 30% and 35% of turnover in the coming years. He also anticipates that international revenues represent between 10% and 15% of sales. And considering a key piece of Bilbao in this strategy.
