RTL Today – “I thought Portuguese was the first language in Luxembourg”: 5 questions for… Mike Desa
The creator of the Portugal Comedy Club tells us how his wacky idea became a reality. The PCC arrives in Luxembourg in February… And it’s not a joke!
Next Friday February 3, a club like no other is coming to Luxembourg. Not a sports club – even if the “punchline” can be physical – but a collective of comedians which appears under the banner “Portugal Comedy Club”.
The idea germinated in the bubbling mind of the young French comedian of Portuguese origin mike desawhile he laughed in front of his television screen which broadcast the Marrakech of laughter, an event created by Jamel Debbouze. The jokes of D’jal, perfectly imitating the Portuguese accent, make him think that his country of origin deserves a humorous meeting dedicated to its culture. And it is this same Jamel Debbouze, whom Mike manages to meet through his producer, who offers him the chance to organize a Portugal Comedy Club in Paris, hosted by the Jamel Comedy Club.
A next step in Luxembourg, where the Portuguese community numbers nearly 100,000 people, seemed obvious: “Me, I thought we spoke Portuguese herenice Mike Desa. I thought it was the first language. For me, we were in Lisbon. When I arrived here, everyone spoke Portuguese to me. I said to myself: Wow, there is something.”
“STOP PLAYBOYING AND GET TO WORK”
Mike Desa was born in 1994 in Paris, where he enrolled at Cours Florent with the ambition of becoming an actor. His encounter with Jeanne Moreau will prove decisive. The star’s first words still resonate with the budding young actor: “You have a voice and a mouth to do this job so stop playing the playboy and get to work!“
An energy incentive that will pay off. The mythical actress allows Mike Desa to take his first steps in the theater or to be an extra on the film Gebo and the shadow by Manoel de Oliveira in 2012. Alongside his first performances, the young actor with a deep voice writes. TV personality Harry Roselmack, whom he met around the same time, is producing the pilot for a short program on influencers that Mike designed. “It didn’t happen, explains the comedian, especially because of the Covid and so I did it on Instagram where it took off well with a lot of followers. Harry then pushed me to do stand-up.“
A decisive event in Mike Desa’s career, which had to be explained to his parents: “They had no references on it. The Portuguese are very down to earth. So telling them that was pretty complicated. A good little dinner around a table was necessary to tell them that I was doing this job. For them, it was not a job. And there, today, they are very proud.“
