The PSG jersey worn by Lionel Messi is in high demand while those of Neymar and Mbappe sell for €10,086 and €14,083 respectively
The auction by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of the shirts worn by Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar has received a good response from fans. As of Sunday January 15, the bid for Messi’s shirt, which he wore in their 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Angers SCO earlier this week, stood at €29,609.
PSG began auctioning match-worn shirts in November. According to their website, the revenue proceeds from these sales will go towards club development and other projects. A statement from the club’s website reads:
“The proceeds from these shirts will be used to continue the development and growth of the club and will be used for different projects.”
Lionel Messi played his first match for PSG since returning from their 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph with Argentina on Wednesday, January 11. The superstar striker netted a second-half goal as the league leaders recorded a 2-0 win over Angers.
It was his eighth goal of the league campaign and his 13th in all competitions.
Lionel Messi’s No. 30 shirt he wore in the first half was in high demand with fans and received offers from China, Spain, UK, USA, Japan and Italy. Currently, a Chinese bidder is leading the race to win the jersey with a bid of €29,609.
Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe set to play together for the first time in 2023 in PSG’s Ligue 1 game against Rennes
Kylian Mbappe was absent from PSG’s 2-0 win over Angers as the team gave him a vacation following his immediate return from the World Cup after finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
He is expected to be back when PSG will travel to Rennes on Sunday in Ligue 1. Manager Christophe Galtier is also expected to field Neymar Jr., who will be returning from suspension, and Lionel Messi in this game.
Shirts worn by Mbappe and Neymar matches were also available to be purchased by fans online and fetched good quantities. The Frenchman’s shirt from the 3-1 loss to RC Lens earlier this month sold for €14,083, while Neymar’s shirt from their 2-1 win over RC Strasbourg sold for €10,086 €.
Mbappe holds the record for the most expensive shirt sold by the Ligue 1 giants at the moment. His jersey worn during the match against Strasbourg was sold for €15,017.
The bid for Messi’s shirt, as mentioned, stands at €29,609, and with only a few hours left in the auction, the price is only likely to rise.
