Ten skiers in Austria swept away by avalanche
In western Austria, skiers are hit by another avalanche. A slab of snow comes loose near Lech.
Lech – In an avalanche accident in Austria near Lech, ten skiers were swept away by an avalanche and three of them were injured. Two of the winter sports enthusiasts have received serious attacks, the state police in Vorarlberg announced on Sunday evening.
The group of ten was therefore traveling towards the Juppenspitze with a 33-year-old ski guide. Suddenly, a slab avalanche broke loose, killing ten skiers. Three of the athletes were able to get out of the avalanche themselves, the others were not buried because of the regular amount of snow – some also wore special backpacks with avalanche airbags.
At Christmas there was an avalanche very close to the Arlberg – four people were injured.
A 45-year-old British woman climbed Mont Blanc in the French Alps on Saturday after being caught in an avalanche. This was reported by the France 3 broadcaster, citing the gendarmerie in Chamonix. A British couple was traveling with a mountain guide when an avalanche released and buried the woman.
Despite the efforts of the rescue workers, the woman died, the report said. Her companion and the mountain guide were not injured. The accident happened on the Argentière glacier. The gendarmerie began investigations into the exact course of events.
