Everything was classic: Ovi scored, and Washington met unsuccessfully.
Alexander Ovechkin scored his 30th goal of the season. It happened in a home game against the Philadelphia Flyers on the night of Saturday to Sunday (1: 3) and the goal marked Ovi’s 17th season with 30 goals in NHL. This was a repeat of the NHL record set by a former Capitals player. Mike Gartner, which, as part of Washington, designed 9 such seasons. Ovechkin scored two thousand minutes before the end of the first period, covering 1:1, and the puck was not quite typical for a Russian. Oleksandr did a great job finishing off, having managed to break through Carter Hart from the second turn.
“It was kind of like a throw-in. Everyone goes to the gate and go rebound. Did I match up with Gartner? I’m just trying my best”Ovechkin said during the first break.
It is unlikely that anyone will be able to catch up with Ovechkin and Gartner in the near future. The closest pursuer is Jaromir Jagr, who has not yet been formally detained. He has 15 seasons with a 30 in his pocket.
Thirty head is a familiar mark for Ovechkin, but it is noteworthy that at the age of 37 he got to it quite quickly. The current pace (30 goals in 45 matches) is the sixth fastest in his career, the fastest achievement of the “thirty” he could boast in the 2013/2014 season, he did it when in 34 matches.
The only season in which Ovechkin did not score 30 goals was ruled out due to the 2020/21 incident pandemic. The Russian then missed significant time due to the loss of his lower body, scoring 24 goals in 45 games. The scoring pace was quite good (0.53 goals per game on average) and went out for 30 goals if it wasn’t expected.
This is only the 11th time in NHL history that someone aged 37 or over has scored 30 goals. The goal also marked his 400th career Ovechkin goal. Only four other players in NHL history have scored 400 home goals, and Ovi has long held the lead in away goals (410).
Well, Wayne Gretzky is 84 goals away.
