Who are the 29 new elected officials of the Toulouse Children’s City Council
Great excitement on Saturday morning, in the municipal council chamber at the Capitol. The mayor of Toulouse and several of his elected officials received 75 young Toulouse residents from the CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes for the first meeting of the year of the Children’s Municipal Council (CME). The chosen one also gave the scarf to 29 children of CM1, newly invested.
. “My son has been a member of the CME since 2022, rejoices Amer, mother of Amir, a 6th grade student. It’s important to our family.” A mother proud of her son like dozens of others who attended the investiture of their newly elected child on Saturday. Twenty-nine CM1 students wore the tricolor scarf for the first time, given by Jean-Luc Moudenc and Nadia Soussi, municipal councilor in charge of the CME. The city councilor also gave, with humor, some little advice for putting on this scarf: “We must wear it on the right shoulder, the blue side near the neck”. Ice, 9, takes on her simplified role: “With this scarf, I feel useful in this advice, she says. I will be able to give ideas and participate in the decisions”.
“It’s a great moment, notes Julie, mother of Amaury who has just received the scarf. Our son is trained in the values of the Republic and becomes aware of themes such as secularism and equality”.
After the group photo, these children added the new themes selected for 2023: “The environment is the major point of their reflections, assures Virginie Jover, coordinator of this council, with the greening of the city, the increase in parks . Then follow living together, solidarity and gender equality”. Like Evan, 12, who asks: “Why in sport, for example, is it frowned upon for girls to practice boxing and boys to dance? “. “These young people are the seed of the citizenship of tomorrow, assures Jean-Luc Moudenc. They carry major societal ideas”.
