increase passengers, but numbers still far from pre-covid
Encouraging data comes fromFellini airport Of Rimini. 2022 closes with over 200,000 passengers: 230% more than in 2021. Positive numbers but still far from pre-Covid levels. In 2019 – in fact – before the pandemic stopped travel, they had registered further 392,000 attendance: a difference – therefore – of 46%, which however is affected by the closure of the airport for more than two months, at the beginning of 2022, for expansion and renovation works. Above all, the war factor weighs in, considering that the figure was influenced by the absence of flights to Russia and Ukraine. For years Fellini has consolidated itself in the markets of Eastern Europe; therefore it is not surprising that the largest volume of traffic was to Poland and Hungary. In particular, the most popular foreign destinations were Budapest, Tirana and Warsaw. Only two Italian ones reachable from Rimini: Palermo and Cagliari, for a total of about 40,000 passengers. The company that scores the highest number is Ryanair, with over 154,000 travellers. Followed by Wizzair, with just over 36,000 and Luxair, over 8,200. AiRiminum, the airport management company, there is a desire to reach 400,000 in 2023, returning to pre-pandemic numbers. After all, after two years of limitations, the desire to travel has returned. However, the strong increases in prices are influencing the choice of destinations: pushing – as insiders point out – towards those less distant, such as European capitals.
