Farmers organize a demonstration in Toulouse
A farmers’ union is organizing a demonstration on Tuesday January 17 in Toulouse. Convoys from several communes of Haute-Garonne are expected.
The Haute-Garonne Young Farmers Union organizes a demonstration Tuesday, January 17 in Toulouse. A call to this effect has already been launched on social networks.
The demonstrators will go to the premises of the Departmental Directorate of Territories, in the Compans district, in the city center. A mess is therefore to be expected in the Pink City, with blockages and snail operations on the program.
From eight o’clock, the departures of several convoys are planned from Gragnague, Villefranche-de-Lauragais, Muret, Pibrac and Lanta. Thus, about sixty tractors are expected in Toulouse for the demonstration of farmers.
Why are farmers demonstrating in Toulouse?
” The objective is to fight against the modification of different zoning (Intermediate Zone, MAEC, Clay Zone, etc.) which currently avoid many and exceed the constraints in vulnerable areas,” explains the Young Farmers Union 31 on Facebook.
The demonstrators demand in particular that the map of underprivileged areas be redrawn. Several areas have been excluded, deprived of financial compensation from farmers under the Agri-Environmental and Climate Measures (AECM).
By demonstrating in Toulouse, farmers also want to state the end of the derogation of the clay zone. The latter allows them to escape the obligation to sow plant cover between two crops.
