Family, love and a fox: Adrian Goiginger in the cafe – salzburg.ORF.at
Radio Salzburg Cafe
In cinemas since January 13: “Der Fuchs” is the third directorial work by Adrian Goiginger from Salzburg. After “The Best of All Worlds”, another immersion in a family history that demanded everything from Goiginger and his team. A film about love and forgiveness, a cafe about deep feelings.
“The Fox” is Adrian Goiginger’s third feature film – after “The Best of All Worlds” about his childhood in Salzburg and “Märzengrund”, which was released in cinemas last year. The story of Goiginger’s great-grandfather Franz Streitberger, who raised a fox cub in occupied France as a Wehrmacht soldier at the beginning of World War II, can be seen in Austrian cinemas from Friday, January 13th.
When he won everything a film can win in Austria six years ago with his debut film “The Best of All Worlds”, he was still a newcomer. The 31-year-old Adrian Goiginger from Salzburg is now an established and award-winning director.
In his new film “The Fox” he once again dives deep into the history of his family. “The Fox” is the true story of Adrian’s great-grandfather, who, as a young soldier in World War II, encounters a wounded fox cub and takes it to the French front.
The fox and the challenges
The production demanded a lot from Goiginger and the actors. Filming was initially delayed due to the pandemic. Financing wasn’t easy at first either.
One of the biggest challenges, however, was shooting with one of the “main characters”, the fox – because you can’t train a wild animal like a dog. Trust was the basis so that the animal was not afraid of the actors. Simon Morzé, who plays the young Franz Streitberger, built up this trust over many months.
