Amazon does not open in Siena, Seggiani: “The municipal administration had to manage differently”
“It is a missed opportunity” commented the general secretary of the CGIL Siena Fabio Seggiani regarding the failure to open the Amazon sorting center in Isola d’Arbia.
The councilor for urban planning Michele Capitani declared that the American giant will not open the hub soon. No new jobs will then be created and according to the general secretary of the Sienese CGIL Fabio Seggianialso from an infrastructure point of view, the halt to the amazon project is a great missed opportunity.
“There’s a difference from announcing 70 hires to seeing an area abandoned to itself. Among other things, in this match the municipal administration has made structural interventions. It’s a bad story and in my opinion it should have been governed differently. When you have a difficult investor like Amazon, the local social partners should be at the table to discuss what is being done and what the returns are. From an infrastructural point of view – said Seggiani – the Monteroni-Monsindoli highway could have been an important game to play and could also be decisive. We risk it escaping through an important piece of production in the municipality of Siena.
The new roundabout built in Isola d’Arbia near the structure built by amazon for Seggiani is not enough, and the failure to open the sorting center could also put the couriers who connect to Badesse in difficulty.
“It’s not a roundabout that arranges hub logistics like this – explained Seggiani -. We need much more, in fact where there is the current Amazon logistics hub, i.e. in Badesse, we work in absolutely confined and unsuitable spaces”.
