The Airports of the Côte d’Azur make their “green” report for 2022
After the delicate context of the health crisis, the ACA group resumed its activities and tried to project itself towards sustainable tourism.
The Côte d’Azur Airports Group (ACA) met before three ” levers on demand he continued to support in 2022.
Air transport decarbonization
An Airbus A380 carried out its first full-scale test of an LTO cycle on the Nice platform (covering the approach, taxiing, take-off and climb phases), 100% carried out with biofuel on one of its engines.
The experiment is successful and seems a good omen, when we know that this LTO cycle represents the flight phase with the greatest environmental impact.
Emissions and electricity
In terms of CO2 emissions, Terminal 1 at Nice airport has been attached to the neighboring wastewater treatment plant, making it possible in particular to recover waste water from the Metropolis. This made it possible to remove the gas boiler from Terminal 1. Result: 700 tons of CO2 are stopped each year.
To reduce its electricity consumption, ACA has implemented a sobriety plan using 10% of its annual consumption. The group also acted the installation of photovoltaic panels, for its platforms of Nice and Cannes-Mandelieu, and the creation of a solar farm with a capacity of 6GWh, for its platform of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez which will then be net producer of carbon-free energy for its territory.
Reduce waste
The Group wishes to better manage its waste and has undertaken, with the support of Citeo, a company specializing in recycling, to completely review the waste collection system within the Nice airport terminals.
We are also focusing on raising passenger awareness from the spring of 2023. This year, a partnership with the Restos du Coeur has also been set up: the airport collects products removed from cabin baggage and redistributes them to the beneficiaries of the association.
