HEP plans to purchase electricity from private producers
The Croatian State Electricity Company (HEP) plans to purchase electricity produced in renewable energy power plants and high-efficiency cogeneration plants.
Hrvatska elektroprivreda is now the second state-owned energy company in the region to add suppliers, as Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) of Bosnia and Herzegovina made a similar decision in August. Purchasing electricity from independent power producers is one option for such utilities to strengthen their renewable energy portfolios.
In a public call, HEP invited legal and natural persons to express their interest in establishing cooperation, as it intends to purchase electricity from power plants using renewable energy sources and in high-efficiency cogeneration plants.
Only power plants above 1 MW are acceptable
Eligible power plants have at least 1 MW of installed capacity.
Potential partners were asked to send a signed form prepared by HEP. The deadline for submitting applications is March 31, according to the public invitation.
After a preliminary assessment, HEP will request more detailed information from qualified entities and individuals.
Interested parties should propose the date of entry into force of the electricity purchase agreement and its duration
The call is open to power plants in operation and those that are planned to be built, but applicants must state when the planned facility will be put into operation. HEP adds that they expect potential suppliers to propose the date of entry into force of the electricity purchase agreement and its duration.
HEP’s call is an opportunity to invest in small power plants
In contrast to HEP’s public call, the company from Bosnia and Herzegovina did not limit the capacity of power plants that could apply, and made it possible to send applications to aggregators with virtual power plants.
Experts expect that the initiative of state electricity producers to purchase green energy from private power plants will encourage the construction of small facilities for distributed electricity generation.
