Around Prague, most of the whole country is demolished. And with the worst consequences
Fortunately, her words indicated that the data on this accident will not spread the saddest statistics. “The driver of the Hyundai passenger vehicle was taken to a Prague hospital for examination with minor injuries, the other driver escaped without injury,” the spokeswoman stated. With the addition that the policeman arrested the culprit of the accident on the spot as a suspect of committing a crime. “For endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance, he will probably not be spared a prison sentence, a ban on activity or a monetary penalty,” says Schneeweissová.
Accidents with consequences to life and health in the Central Bohemian Region in 2022.
Not all crashes, including those under the influence of alcohol or drugs, end relatively well. It shows the police evaluation of traffic accidents for the past year. Last year, 76 people died on the roads of Central Bohemia, 17 in accidents in Prague. The number of crashes with consequences for life and health increased compared to previous years. From the point of view of the numbers, the roads around the metropolis may appear to be the “most dangerous” in the entire republic – however, the Central Bohemian region is the largest (and most populous) – and also has the longest road network.
Accidents change the lives of many families
In 2022, police officers in Central Bohemia dealt with a total of 15,128 accidents. In addition to the aforementioned 76 victims, 280 people were seriously injured and 3105 lightly injured. The metropolis recorded a more significant year-on-year decrease in the number of reported accidents – however, the capital still holds the national “record” with 15,475 crashes. In addition to 17 lost lives, police officers recorded 196 serious and 1,829 minor injuries. Material damage both in Prague and in central Bohemia reached 1.3 billion crowns; in the capital they were slightly higher.
Prague and its surroundings have an unflattering leading position in the number of incidents associated with the influence of addictive substances. South Moravia can “compete” with them in terms of alcohol, and the Ústí Region in terms of drugs. In Central Bohemia, the police detected alcohol in 615 accidents (3.15 percent) and drugs in 47 cases (0.24 percent), in Prague alcohol was responsible for 458 (2.52 percent) and drugs for 31 (0.17). However, from the point of view of the national average, the populous metropolitan region is not as bad as the absolute numbers would suggest: when comparing the percentages, other regions are much worse off. The worst is the Karlovy Vary region: alcohol 4.91 percent and drugs 0.52 percent. The average for the entire country offers values of 3.47 and 0.21 percent.
Unlucky Fridays, tragic Mondays
The Central Bohemian Region, together with Prague, had significant shares in the total numbers. In total, the police registered 30.6 thousand accidents in them, while there were 98.4 thousand nationally – 31 percent of them therefore fell on the metropolitan area. The police recorded 19.7 thousand incidents with consequences for life or health throughout the country – of which 2,688 were in Central Bohemia and 1,739 in Prague (totalling 22.4 percent).
Fractures, falls, fires. Prague’s rescuers worked in the final year
On average, there are 267 accidents per day and the average damage is 20.78 million crowns. Material damage amounts to 861,000 per hour – and the average damage per accident reaches 76,600. By the way: these games with numbers show that last year the Police of the Czech Republic reported a traffic accident roughly every five minutes. However, the differences are noticeable both during the day and during the week. The biggest accident happened on Friday, the least on Sunday. However, the police counted the most victims on Monday.
In Czech Republic, 454 people died on the roads last year; the most drivers of passenger cars (179), pedestrians (74), passengers in passenger cars (66), motorcyclists (55) and cyclists (42). The most typical causes of tragic accidents include – as is traditionally the case – driving too fast, crossing in the opposite direction and not paying attention to driving. Alcohol was responsible for 46 lives, drugs for five. Only 111 days passed without casualties last year.
