Toulouse. They are considered “too ugly”: organic vegetables sold at an unbeatable price

She made a name for herself by collecting from local producers of the fruits and vegetables “non-standard”. Plants that are too big, too small, twisted or simply “ugly”and therefore impossible to put on the shelves for mass distribution.
The Parisian company Bene Bono which markets these plants, has arrived at Toulouse and should deliver its first baskets from January 16, 2023.
Few solutions to avoid waste downstream of mass distribution
Launched in 2020, Bene Bono was created from a clear observation. ” There was many solutions against food waste downstream of mass distribution, with applications like Too Good To Golaws…”, explains Sven Ripoche, one of the company’s founders. “Upstream, however, we saw a blind spot! And it represents 50% food waste ! »
Relay points all over the city
So the company goes directly to the producers and recovers their products that are not good enough to be sold in supermarkets. They are then put in baskets and delivered in relay pointsmainly small craftsmen such as florists, butchers… The customer just has to pick up his basket order the previous week on the company’s website.
And thanks to the absence of intermediaries, but also cheaper purchases, the company promises fruits and vegetables 100% organicaround 40% cheaper than other distributors.
Grocery products also affected
And in its fight against waste, Bene Bono did not stop at fruits and vegetables. She also chose to take an interest in groceries (rice, pasta, chocolate…). Products concerned by more crazy rules than sometimes those related to plants.
“Large retailers generally want to recover products before two-thirds of the expiry date are distributed. A product that expires after 9 months must be delivered before 3 months in clear! Those who have exceeded this limit, we recover them”
Something to fill the shelves with products who were destined for the incinerator!
