The electronic health record is from Liechtenstein
VADUZ – At the beginning of 2023, an electronic health record (eGD) was set up for every person with health insurance in Liechtenstein. The connection of the health service providers, who fill out and use the dossier accordingly with treatment-relevant data, should take place before the middle of the year.
“The dossier set up in accordance with the law on the electronic health record (EGDG) is currently comparable to an empty folder labeled with the administrative data of the person in question,” informed the Ministry of Society and Culture on Wednesday.
Therefore, no health-related data can be uploaded at the moment. “By the middle of the year at the latest, however, healthcare providers are obliged to store health-related data in the respective eGD,” it continues. However, the obligation to store data in the dossier is not associated with a right of inspection: this must be done expressly approved by the patient available for a limited period of time.
Same system as in Switzerland and Austria
However, insured persons would already have the opportunity to enter personal data such as telephone number and e-mail address, call up substitutes (e.g. for children under the age of 14) or lodge an objection. An objection means that no more health data is stored in the dossier, health data that has already been filed is deleted and the dossier is thus sealed against all access.
According to the ministry, the eGD is based on a standard solution that was selected in an international tender. The product is also used as the basis for health records in Austria and Switzerland. When choosing, the greatest value is on Data protection and information security been laid.
