Letter to the Editor – For God, Prince and Fatherland
Liechtenstein is facing a fateful referendum. It is about correcting a disastrous misdevelopment in Liechtenstein’s casino policy initiated by the state parliament in 2016. The result is on the table. A casino flood beyond compare. Throwing a spanner in the works of casino operators to counteract a momentous development is an illusion that the government wants to continue to follow. Legally, such a policy stands on feet of clay. Even the moratorium cannot bring back the originally intended “one casino policy”. At the moment there is only either or. A Casinoland remains or finally end the spook with a yes to the casino ban. Liechtenstein’s motto “For God, Prince and Fatherland” is a good guide for the referendum. For “God”, because God is not in the search and therefore cannot be found in casinos. For “Prince”, since Hereditary Prince Alois is not committed to the flood of casinos either. “I’m not a friend of casinos” (annual interview 2023 in the “Volksblatt”). For the fatherland”. Liechtenstein’s happiness and future continue to lie in its small size, its creative power, its integrity and its impressive, diversified economy. In addition, embedded between good, peace-loving and benevolent neighbors. Liechtenstein should not and must not jeopardize this happiness with an internationally active casino industry driven by greed and selfishness. The people must now decide whether, in five years, we want to have a casino-free fatherland that we can be proud of.
