Fine of 50,000 demanded from Net Brussels
The Brussels labor prosecutor’s office demanded a fine of 50,000 euros from Net Brussels because of the suicide of a bullied employee. A foreman is on trial. He is sentenced to six months in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.
The foreman would have humiliated and threatened the victim for a long time. According to the public prosecutor, employer Net Brussel was aware, but never intervened. “Both are therefore guilty of unintentional manslaughter,” said the labor auditor at the trial before the criminal court on Wednesday. “The bullying, psychological violence and double neglect of the defendants led to the death of the victim.”
Both Net Brussels and the manager are going for the acquittal: “They have nothing to do with the suicide of that man,” their lawyers say. The foreman’s lawyer refers to the victim’s relational and private problems. The lawyer of Net Brussels acknowledges that it is ‘a sad case’, but ‘no error can be determined’. The verdict is expected on March 15.
