A scooter driver was fatally hit by a car last Saturday in Monaco, the principality’s general prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Tuesday. The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Boulevard du Larvotto, near Place Sainte-Dévote.
The driver of the scooter was hit by an SUV-type vehicle, “which had crossed the continuous line and had deported to the opposite lane, finding itself traveling in the opposite direction”, specifies the prosecution.
Despite the intervention of the emergency services, the driver of the two-wheeler did not survive.
Driver remanded in custody
After the accident, the driver of the car, who showed “outward signs of drunkenness”, was taken into custody. On Sunday, his custody was extended for an additional 24 hours.
The motorist, of foreign nationality and residing in France, was referred on Monday to the general prosecutor’s office to be presented to an examining magistrate. The latter charged him with the counts of “aggravated manslaughter”, “driving while clearly intoxicated”, “refusal to submit to a blood alcohol screening test” and “refusal to submit to the prior narcotics screening order”.
He was remanded in custody.
