Hanover connects
The increased energy and gas prices are already presenting many households in the city and region of Hanover with major financial challenges. Many people fear that they will not be able to pay their gas, electricity or oil bills in the coming months. In addition, the cost of groceries and everyday necessities have also risen sharply. We would like to do something together with you so that the cohesion of our society continues to function – especially when people with a certain income are finding it more and more difficult to get by with little money. In view of this situation, the Evangelical Church in Hanover and the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung are calling for solidarity and action under the motto “Hanover connects”. The aim is to set up a fund for people who cannot, or only with great difficulty, finance their back payments for electricity and gas consumption.
■ The “Hanover connects” initiative asks all households that do not need the gas allowance to donate it.
■ The initiators also ask for general donations to support people who are in need due to the increased energy costs.
■ Numerous activities and an information campaign on the topic of saving energy are to accompany the appeal.
■ The Hanover Diakonisches Werk and the Hanover Caritas Association also offer advice for people in social distress.
■ As further concrete support, the action alliance plans to set up “heat islands”: the distribution of an inviting lunch in churches and community rooms.
■ In addition, from January to March 2023, the ecumenical food distribution for homeless people in the Reformed Church on Waterlooplatz will be set up again.
