Football, National top league | Media: Benfica signs Schjelderup from North Zealand
The Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola writes on Tuesday evening that the agreement is already in the box and that Benfica will pay 10 million euros (106.7 million kroner) immediately. According to the newspaper, performance-related clauses can lead to the final sum being 15 million euros (160 million kroner).
TV 2 learns on Tuesday that Benfica will travel to Copenhagen this week to negotiate the final details surrounding the purchase of the Norwegian shooting star. According to the channel’s information, the transfer is worth more than 150 million kroner, which in that case will make Schjelderup the second most expensive Norwegian teenager (after Erling Braut Haaland when Borussia Dortmund bought him from Salzburg).
The personal terms have not yet been negotiated, but according to TV 2, Schjelderup will get a contract of five and a half years.
On the top
Schjelderup has excelled in the Danish Superliga and was voted the league’s best player in the autumn season. He scored 10 goals in 17 games and contributed strength to the club from the Copenhagen suburb Farum wintering at the top of the table.
It has already been known that Benfica is in the process of securing 22-year-old Casper Tengstedt from Rosenborg. The club thus brings in a Norwegian youngster from the Danish league and a Danish youngster from the Norwegian league.
Schjelderup has been highly sought after by many big clubs. According to TV 2, he himself has expressed to Nordsjælland that he prefers Benfica, where he is projected to play an important role in the team.
Comet career
From before, Fredrik Aursnes is in Benfica, who in February will meet Brugge in the Champions League round of 16.
Schjelderup is from Bodø and played for Glimt’s age-specific team until he signed for Nordsjælland as a 16-year-old in the summer of 2020. He debuted in the super league in February 2021 and quickly became a profile in the super league.
He has matches for Norwegian age-specific national teams up to U21.
