Fatal accident at the IM2S tunnel in Monaco: the driver placed in pre-trial detention
This Saturday shortly before 11 p.m., a traffic accident involved an SUV-type Mercedes and a 500cc scooter on Boulevard du Larvotto at the exit of the IM2S tunnel, on the side of the Place Sainte-Dévote bridge.
We know more about the circumstances. “The driver of the two-wheeler, who was traveling in his lane, was hit by the Mercedes vehicle which had crossed the solid line and had swerved into the opposite lane, finding itself traveling in the wrong direction”a press release this Tuesday noon from the General Prosecutor’s Office of Monaco.
The intervention of the emergency services did not make it possible to save the driver of the scooter, whose death was noted on the spot. He was 54 years old, married and father of two children. Valet-porter at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, he had just completed his service and was heading for Cap-d’Ail where he was staying.
The driver of the SUV was drunk
At the time of the events, the driver of the SUV, of foreign nationality and residing in France, showed outward signs of drunkenness. Arrested by the men of the Public Security, he was placed in police custody “counts of manslaughter, driving while clearly intoxicated, refusal to submit to a blood alcohol test and refusal to submit to a test for a narcotic substance or product”.
This Sunday, his police custody was extended for a further 24 hours. He was then referred this Monday evening to the general prosecutor’s office of Monaco to be presented to an examining magistrate.
“The judge in charge of the judicial investigation charged the driver with the counts of aggravated manslaughter, driving while clearly intoxicated, refusing to submit to a blood alcohol screening test and refusing to submit to the prior narcotics screening order”continues the general prosecutor’s office of Monaco.
In accordance with the requisitions of the general prosecutor’s office, the accused was placed in pre-trial detention.
