Ariege. A baker from Saurat will join her fellow protesters in Paris
Marine Lafitte, a distressed baker from Ariège, will appear on January 23 in Paris alongside artisan bakers from all over France.
Hit hard like her fellow bakers by soaring energy prices and rising raw material prices, Marine Lafitte, a baker from Saurat, from the “Dame Farine et Dame Chocolat” establishment, who was to settle in the village in the coming months, has decided to respond to the call of the Union of Independent Artisans Bakers (UDABI).
Indeed, faced with a catastrophic situation for the sector, which the collective describes as “the assassination of crafts”, several mobilizations will take place soon, including a demonstration this Monday, January 23 at 2 p.m., Place de la Nation in Paris. “Everything we are currently experiencing is a disaster, I am in regular contact with fellow bakers, most of whom have been dismissed in every way because they can no longer bear the burdens”, confides the Sauratoise.
“Mits in Danger”
Thus, the bakery project supported by the municipality for several months, among others, is now being undermined. “I tell myself that fortunately the bakery did not open 6 months ago, because there we would be in the process of sinking completely”, continues the baker. “I know that many will unfortunately close in the coming weeks, and the strongest will have to reinvent their production methodology by producing on off-peak hours and cutting four at certain times of the day”.
“No bread on January 20 and 25”
Thus, many support groups from all over France are making the trip to the capital on January 23 to make their anger and dismay heard. Also, a general bakers’ strike is scheduled for Sunday January 20, as well as Wednesday January 25. Ovens will be turned off for the occasion and most bakeries will be closed.
The collectives “Les pendus”, “Antigone”, “La boulangerie à poil”, as well as the president of the Hauts-de-France Chamber of Trades and Crafts, the Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises of Deux-Sèvres and many other angry collectives will be alongside the bakers this January 23.
