Sparta gave Kladno no chance, Thorell shone in the O2 arena – ČT sport – Czech Television
“It was a difficult match, like all against Kladno. At the beginning it didn’t go as well as we would have imagined, but after the first goal we calmed down a bit. Then it was up and down, we tried to stay patient and calmly win by one goal. Fortunately we added another one and we already saw the end,” said home defender Martin Jandus.
Sparta entered the fourth home game in a row without striker Tomášek, on the contrary, Kaše returned to the lineup for the first time since October 2.
The beginning of the match did not offer many chances as goalkeepers Kořenář and Bow managed a minimum of shots. The Canadian had more work in the service of the Knights, who also cashed in first. The people of Prague came out on top in the first power play, when Thorell hit the spot.
At the turn of the first and second period, the guests survived the second weakening and then they were able to equalize on the power play. However, they did not significantly threaten Korenář. Sparta gradually gained the upper hand, but could not add a second goal. The bow caught reliably.
In the 35th minute, after Zikmund’s action, Melka got into a promising position, Kořenář coped with his attempt. The closest to the goal were the Spartans with another numerical advantage, but Řepík only scored on the goal structure and Bow excelled against Kousal.
However, after 62 seconds of the third period, defender Jandus drove into the open defense of Kladno, shot past Bow and brought Sparta closer to victory. “I joined the action as a far back and I saw that there was a lot of free space in front of me. Their defender was a bit back, I wanted to decide him. I fired to the far post and it fell there,” Jandus described the fourth goal in one.
He could have cut Plekanec right away, but he ended up the same as Řepík from the break on the other side. The Central Bohemians had to start pushing more into the attack, and the opportunities for the home team increased. Safin could have increased the lead in the 45th minute, but it didn’t happen until two minutes later when he found his own blocked shot in front of the goal.
In the 58th minute, Kousal scored the curious first goal in Sparta’s jersey, who was fouled by Plekanec during the power play and the attacker, who came to Prague from Mladá Boleslav during the week, was unable to finish.
“We lacked pressure on the goal. They let us play in the corner, but we couldn’t get anything in front of the goal. In addition, we have very few power forwards lately,” Kladno forward Matěj Beran regretted after the match.
“We should play a little more simply, we combine everything and let the opponent have unnecessary chances. Every time we improve something in the match, something else is missing and unfortunately we added it again,” her assistant coach Pavel Skrbek.
