Entrance fee for Brussels urban swimming pool tripled | Brussels
BrusselsThis year, the City of Brussels provided the entrance fee for returning swimmers in its swimming pools. For example, the six-month subscription of 100 euros is replaced by a 50-session card of 50 euros. “The costs for daily swimmers differ so much from 200 to 730 euros,” says opposite member Els Ampe (Open-VLD).
The City of Brussels has three municipal swimming pools: the swimming pool near the Vossenplein, the swimming pool in Laeken and one in Neder-Over-Heembeek. Residents who regularly go swimming there will have to taste somewhat larger ones from 2023. The semi-annual subscriptions of 100 euros, as long as you can swim as much as you want for a period of 6 months, will disappear. It will be replaced by a 50-session card of 50 euros.
That is a lot more expensive compared to other Brussels municipalities. In Anderlecht and Etterbeek, for example, swimmers pay 200 euros per year. In most Brussels municipalities, this amount also fluctuates between 200 and 300 euros. In Sint-Joost-ten-Noode that is even only 150 euros per year. Swimming in the Brussels Rand is best for the wallet: in Municipal Swimming Pool ‘t Zeepaardje in Vilvoorde you pay 108.5 euros for a year.
“The costs for daily swimmers change from 200 to 730 euros in this way,” says municipal councilor Els Ampe (Open-VLD). “This makes the City of Brussels twice as expensive as Knokke, where an annual subscription costs 360 euros. The price increase takes advantage of the energy crisis, because Brussels charges much more to the citizen than the probability of the costs.” That is why Ampe proposes a fixed annual subscription of 200 euros. Whether that will eventually come to pass is still unclear. The cabinet of competent ships Benoit Hellings (Ecolo) did indicate that it is open to consultations with changing swimmers.
