Many demonstrations took place in the streets of Toulouse this Saturday, January 7, 2023, without arrest or particular clash, reports a police source, while a rally in memory of the victims of the January 2015 attacks in Paris, also picks up at the end of the day in the Pink City.
300 yellow vests on one side…
The yellow vests first met at the beginning of the afternoon in the Jean-Jaurès sector, before marching through the center of Toulouse. While the reasons for anger appear numerous at the start of the year, against a backdrop of soaring purchasing power, inflation, ZFE, or even pension reform, the attempt to reactivate the movement which had put thousands people on the streets at the end of 2018 did not galvanize the troops: approximately 300 demonstrators have been designated. It’s not much, but it’s more than what the authorities had initially imagined, who were counting on a few hundred participants. Far from the outbursts that had punctuated these demonstrations a few years ago, no problem was reported.
… and 300 pro-Kurds on the other
An hour later, at the same place, the defenders of the Kurdish people also beat the pavement in Toulouse, to pay tribute to the members of this community murdered in Paris in December, but also for the tenth anniversary of the assassination of three Kurds, already in the capital, where the shadow of the Turkish secret services hovered. This demonstration, to which 300 people also participated in peace according to the police, had been declared in the prefecture. To “demand the truth and justice on these crimes”, the deputy (LFI) of the 1re riding Hadrian Clouet was notably of the procession. “Who kills the Kurds”?, asked the chosen one on twitter.
