With BodyZoi Wrestling, wrestling in Belgium imposes itself on the European scene
On February 26, BodyZoi Wrestling will host “Fly or Crash”, the promotion’s seventh major event. The organization, located in Belgium, needs to grow in popularity as evidenced by the success of their latest show. Indeed, on October 29, more than 200 people gathered at the Colfontaine cultural hall for “BZW 6”. Fans managed to see Bandido – an international wrestler who recently signed with All Elite Wrestling – become the new BodyZoi champion. VL Media was lucky enough to be there to attend this event, and sums up this wrestling evening for you.
A new sheriff has arrived at BodyZoi Wrestling. Indeed, at the end of a very good fight which closed the event, Bandido won against the former champion of BZW, Senza Volto. The arrival of Bandido, since signed to All Elite Wrestling, was able to develop more of a look at the promotion, created in August 2019. Proof of their recent success, the show had to relocate in order to be able to welcome more fans, who came specially for the occasion. This was the case of David, 31, who traveled from Liège with his partner to attend the show. “My girlfriend is not a wrestling fan. She gave me the pleasure of accompanying me. It was my second time at BodyZoi and we had a great time, especially at the Meet & Greet with Bandido before the show”, he says. A craze which is explained by the less family style and more focused on the quality of the fights in the ring, which appeals to wrestling fans from the start. “BodyZoi has a very strong image in Europe. Few wrestling promotions in Europe can sell out in a week. While others are stalling, BodyZoi is progressing and it is likely to become a must-have promotion in Europe in the years to come”emphasizes Senza Volto.
The show opened with a match between the English wrestler, Connor Mills, and Aigle Blanc. The latter, currently wXw Tag Team Champion alongside Senza Volto, made a big impression on mainstream audiences thanks to his appearance at ZEvent 2022. After defeating Kuro and Rivenzi with his one-night partner, streamer Ponce, the French wrestler a shone by beating his English counterpart at BodyZoi. An opening match which knew how to warm up the crowd for the rest of the evening. “The ZEvent allowed people to understand that wrestling in Europe existed. Wrestling is becoming fashionable again, because it is taken much more seriously, both by uninitiated people than by the wrestlers themselves., says Aigle Blanc, who also confides his desire to export abroad with his partner Senza Volto. On the English wrestling side, fans also had the chance to see Cara Noir, former world champion of Progress Wrestling. The latter, after a remarkable entry into the Swan Lakewon against the Belgian wrestler Ultima Sombra.
In addition, Body Zoi’s tag team champions Les Enfants Terribles – Georges Balsac and Gustave Le Brun – successfully defended their title against Daniel Sparks and Tibo Hendrik. It was the second title defense of the champions, they who won the belts last March by beating Rivality. Speaking of Rivality, one of the team members, MBM won their yellow panel match against Jack No Name. A violent fight, without rules, which knew how to please the fault thanks to its intensity. “My company didn’t like the game. She found it too violent”, nuance David. Tanguy, 28, who moved from Namur, underlines the variety of fights offered and the ” high quality ” of this extreme game. Finally, Aaron Achilles emerged victorious from the match of five which opposed him to Tristan Archer, Jacob Vidocq, Cormac Hamilton and Saxon Huxley. A fight that was entirely based on its unforeseen aspect since the five participants did not reveal themselves upstream. “BodyZoi tries and dares. They are not afraid and that is what makes it work”, adds Maxime, 31, who traveled with a friend from Dainville, near Arras. The only downside according to him: the lack of wrestlers present on the show. Indeed, BodyZoi Wrestling did not feature any female bouts at the event. A decision, thus, disappointing for the representation of women’s wrestling on the European scene.
BodyZoi Wrestling will present its seventh major event, “Fly or Crash”, on Sunday, February 26, 2023. The cultural venue in Colfontaine, Belgium, will host the show, which begins at 4 p.m. The ticket office has been open since this Saturday at 10 a.m., on the promotion website.
