We could get used to the fact that in the winter months in the peripheral parts of Prague, especially in forest parks and wooded areas, various animals appear more and more often. But we can come across wild pigs in places where we wouldn’t expect it. And it can be very dangerous. Several residents of Řep described their experiences.
In general, we can meet wild boars in a number of places in Prague. You can easily come across wild pigs in Šárecké údolí, in the area of Hostivice or Kunratic. But you can also meet wild boar closer to the center, for example in the areas around Motol, the grounds of the Na Homolce Hospital, in the vicinity of Břevnov, in the Hvězda nature reserve or on the plain around Ladronka.
Our reader met them in Prague’s Řepy.
“I saw two adult sows with young just a few meters from the Church of St. Charles Borromeo. I don’t even want to imagine what could happen if I went there with children or a dog. The dog does not know that the wild boar does not want to play with him. In fact, it can be terribly dangerous. “I heard several times that a wild boar literally tore a dog apart,” he says.

We can easily tell that wild pigs are moving around in the area by the rutted ground. They provided the images to other residents of this district.
Fear is
Wild pigs dig and look for food. In many places, there are reservations even in sections of tens of meters around asphalt roads where people walk.
Pigs also run around in the forest park between Řepy and Zličín. In the area, which is in the Motolské Potok valley. It is a quiet place where there is a children’s playground, a children’s educational trail, but also a landscaped area with a large fireplace and seats made of logs, where the area manager loads firewood for burning the campfire and roasting burritos.
The public playground is managed by the Municipal Council of Prague 13.
There are two access roads leading to the area, on which there are locked barriers. Preventing the entry of authorized motor vehicles. It is a popular place visited by parents with children, but also by dog walkers. They are mostly considerate of each other and don’t mind, there is enough room for everyone.
“Dogs run free here, children play together on the grass, and it’s only a few steps from where you can see their carvings. I prefer to lead the dog here. They hide in quiet places, but even there the dog can sneak in,” adds the mentioned reader with concern in his voice.
Although wild pigs are more of a nocturnal animal, in places where hunting is not taking place, they are active during the day and can pose a danger. The probability of aggressive behavior of a doe with young is even higher than usual.
