AS Monaco scuttled against Rodez
The Monegasques were eliminated for their entry into the competition by losing on penalties against Rodez (2-2, 4 TAB 5), resident of Ligue 2
The match: 2-2 (4 TAB 5)
They could harbor immense regrets. After a start to the match largely to their advantage and perfectly produced by the achievements of Maghnes Akliouche (1-0, 23′) and Wissam Ben Yedder (2-0, 37′), the Monegasques saw Rodez reduce the gap at the end of the first period through Joseph Mendes (2-1, 42′).
If Monaco got chances to make the break, Philippe Clément’s men lacked realism and let the locals get back into the game thanks to an achievement by a former Rock player, Aymen Abdennour (2-2, 80 ‘).
Taken in an indecisive penalty shootout, the Monegasques had the match point, after Thomas Didillon’s parade. But Aleksandr Golovin missed his attempt, condemned Rodez to come back again.
Soungoutou Magassa in check, Andy Pembélé offered the victory to his people by scoring the last shot on goal of a session which will have finally turned to the advantage of the resident of Ligue 2.
Semi-finalists last year, AS Monaco are already seeing their adventure come to an end for their entry into the competition. Next meeting for the Monegasques, this Wednesday (9 p.m.) on the lawn of FC Lorient.
The player: Maghnes Akliouche delivers his counter
Established in support of Wissam Ben Yedder, the young Monegasque attacking midfielder made an impression.
At the origin of many offensives, Maghnes Akliouche was rewarded in the first period by registering his very first but for the professionals with a powerful strike from the left (23 ‘).
Close to a double after returning from the locker room, the twirling Akliouche saw his header from close range repelled by Sébastien Cibois (51′). Released on the hour mark in favor of Aleksandr Golovin (61′), the native of Tremblay-en-France certainly made a good impression in the eyes of Philippe Clément.
