A market driven by company cars
The Volvo XC 40, second in the world rankings in 2021, finishes fourth this time, ahead of the Mini Cooper and the Peugeot 308 and 208. The BMW X3 and X1 and the Audi Q3 follow.
The Volvo compact SUV is the most popular model in Flanders and with companies and independents, ahead of Peugeot and BMW, while even more than usual, the Belgian automotive market was supported in 2022 by registrations assigned to companies. These reached 57.7% of registrations in 2021, and their share climbed to 61.9% last year.
In a global market down 4.4%, with only 366,303 registrations, company vehicles rose 2.5%. Note that if half of the Citroën C3 is sold to individuals, this model is also in high demand by rental companies. In terms of electric cars, the Tesla Model Y dominates, ahead of the BMW iX3 and the Audi e-tron. The share of diesel vehicles has fallen to barely 16.4% of the Belgian market, and it is the Peugeot 308 and 5008 that remain the best-selling diesel cars.
