San Marino football, 2023 for Cosmos begins with the Serravalle derby against Folgore
The 2023 of the Società Sportiva Cosmos officially starts this weekend with an appointment as important as it is intricate: the Serravalle derby against Folgore.
There Cosmoscaptained by Roberto Di Maio and coached by Nicola Berardi, they have already won a derby in Serravalle this season by beating Juvenes/Dogana 2-0 and are also aiming to beat Folgore on Saturday 7 January at 3 pm at the “Ezio Conti” sports field in Customs (Republic of San Marino).
Currently, the yellow-greens from Serravalle occupy third place in the San Marino football championship standings with 21 points collected in 12 games (8 wins, 3 draws and one defeat), -4 behind leaders La Fiorita. Cosmos also has the best attack (22 goals, tied with Pennarossa, of which 7 scored by forward Matteo Prandelli) and the best defense (only 5 goals conceded).
Waiting to experience the Serravalle derby, here is the interview with Nicola Berardi, coach of the Cosmos Sports Club.
Mister Berardi, upon returning from the Christmas holidays, you will immediately face an important match, namely the Serravalle derby against Folgore. You’ve already won one this year against Juvenes/Dogana, what will you have to do on a pitch to repeat yourself again on this occasion? How are Captain Di Maio and his companions?
“Our next championship game will be very difficult because we will have to deal with Folgore, which comes from a great victory against Tre Penne and from qualifying for the semi-finals of the Titano Cup. We will have to play our game trying to be more incisive to win as many games as possible, including the one against Folgore. We started training again on 27 December after a week off, which was very useful for the players because they needed to unwind for a while having played very tight games for months from August to December. We want to do well until the end of this season, starting with this weekend.”.
What struck you about the new yellow-green players Lorenzo Nisi and Mattia Lualdi?
“Lorenzo Nisi has already made an excellent impression on me in his first training sessions with Cosmos. He is a first striker, he can also play as a second striker and loves to play deep. I like his attitude: he has already made himself available to our team and is training 100%. Mattia Lualdi, on the other hand, is a good midfielder and attacking midfielder who I’ve already had the good fortune to coach in the past. He has so much quantity but also so much quality. I am very happy with these two purchases”.
Some players are no longer part of Cosmos. Do you have a message for them?
“I was sad that Emilio Docente passed away, who is a true professional who I will always hold in very high esteem. I am also sorry for the departures of Tommaso Bastianelli, Paolo Basile and Martin Comanducci. I thank Emilio, Tommaso, Paolo and Martin for having shown great professionalism on every occasion and I wish them the best personal and professional fortunes”.
