Monaco faces Partizan Belgrade this Thursday evening for the 17th day of the EuroLeague. This will be the opportunity for Sasa Obradovic to face his former coach, the legendary Zeljko Obradovic, for the first time.
This Thursday, AS Monaco is attacking the year 2023 by playing its last match of the first leg of the EuroLeague regular season. A week after its victory against Zalgiris Kaunas, the Roca Team intends to beat the only opponent it has not yet encountered in the competition. Without Jordan Loyd Nope Adrian Moerman, the principality’s players will have a hard time facing a team which made good progress at the end of the year and can count on the support of more than 17,000 of its fervent supporters at Stark Arena. An element to be taken very seriously for the group of Sasa Obradovic. Especially since the latter knows the context well for being himself from Belgrade. However, the 53-year-old coach will experience an event for the first time: facing his former coach, the legendary Zeljko Obradovicin an official game.
“As a coach, this is the first time I will meet Zeljko Obradovic, he recalls on his club’s website. It’s a great honor and a great challenge for me because Zeljko is a unique man in the basket, one of the greatest coaches in history. I believe that no coach will one day be able to match his record. He has built a work that is simply exceptional and incomparable. Zeljko was my coach for the Yugoslavia team, we won a lot of medals together! (world champions and European champions in particular, editor’s note). He has now returned to the club from their maiden EuroLeague title in 1992 and he has already managed to build Partizan into a formidable side for their return to Europe’s biggest competition. »
At Partizan, Monaco will also find two of its former players: the pivot Mathias Lessort (n°2 in the ranking at the evaluation of the competition) and the gunner Danilo Andjusic. The in-between will be given at 9 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on the L’Équipe channel.
